The College of Natural and Computational Sciences (CoNCS) is one of the founding academic units of Dilla University (DU). Its origins trace back to the establishment of Dilla College of Teachers’ Education and Health Sciences (DCTEHS) in 2005 G.C. The college’s journey began even earlier when DCTEHS was part of Debub University in 2001.
In 2006, the Council of Ministers granted Dilla University its independent status. Following this milestone, CoNCS was officially established in 2007 as one of the university’s primary colleges. However, in 2009, the college underwent structural changes, leading to its division into various schools. This separation was short-lived, as the college was restructured and reunited in 2012, forming its current organization with seven departments: Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Sport Science, and Statistics.
Since its reorganization, CoNCS has been operating at full capacity under the leadership of a dean, supported by vice-deans and departmental heads. The college currently offers twelve undergraduate programs, including BSc and BEd degrees, along with thirteen master’s programs. These programs are primarily based at the university’s main campus.
In addition to its regular academic programs, the college actively participates in various university initiatives, including the freshman program, weekend program, summer program, and remedial program. Through these contributions, CoNCS continues to play a pivotal role in the academic and research endeavors of Dilla University.
The College of Natural and Computational Sciences (CoNCS) is dedicated to producing skilled graduates in Natural and Computational Sciences through industry collaboration and community involvement. By fostering leadership and promoting innovative research, CoNCS enhances workforce readiness at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The college organizes monthly academic forums and seeks partnerships with local and international organizations to support its mission.
Additionally, CoNCS aims to excel in Business and Economics education, establishing itself as a national leader in research and community engagement. Through these initiatives, the college strives to produce qualified professionals who contribute meaningfully to societal progress.
The Vision of CoNCS is to achieving Dilla University’s vision of becoming a nationally competitive and internationally recognized innovative university for societal transformation by 2030.
