About Us
Overview of Dilla University
With its inception as Dilla College of Teachers’ Education and Health Sciences (DCTEHS) in 1996, the current Dilla University was organized as part of the then newly emerging Debub (literally means South University) in 2001. The college began teaching with few students early and grew to host 12 departments. With the rapid internal expansion of the universities to accommodate the geometrically increasing number of students in the country, the Council of Ministers granted DCTEHS certification as an independent and full-fledged university in 2006 (Proclamation No.129/1999). At this junction, it is noteworthy that the college has been the icon of quality graduates with great reputations at regional and national levels and even beyond, especially in the teaching profession until recently.
In a recent Higher education institution differentiation, DU has been categorized under the University of Applied Science (UAS), focusing on four primary areas: Agriculture, Natural Resources Management, Health, and Education. The Institute’s primary focus since its creation has been on supporting community, culture, enterprise, and business through creating accessible programs of study that address regional and national needs, through the provision of cutting-edge research that drives regional innovation, and through thought leadership that informs regional decision-making and planning.
