Faculty members, stakeholders, postgraduate students, and research councils attended a two-day research validation workshop held on the 19th and 20th of December 2017. The workshop was organized by the Research, Publication, Ethics, and Dissemination Directorate Office in collaboration with the Research and Technology Transfer V/President Office of Dilla University.
Misganu Legesse (PhD), Director of Research, Publication, Ethics, and Dissemination Office, welcomed the participants and acknowledged the community members who came from Dilla University’s research catchment areas. The director, after briefly introducing the program, told the panel that more than 160 papers are expected to be validated at the two-day workshop and said the College of Medicine and Health Science is leading by securing 52 research projects.
Habtamu Temesgen (PhD), Research and Technology Transfer Vice President, gave an opening speech stressing the need for research validation. He gave a background on the what, why, and how of research monitoring and management. He said a research process is a professional, demanding job, and it needs commitment from the staff and the stakeholders. He also told the panel that his office is undertaking strategic moves that target improving research management at the university.
At the preliminary session that took place at the Multipurpose Hall of the University, a research data management software developed by a team of scholars from Dilla University called “RedMap: The Thematic Research Data Management System” was presented to the participants. A keynote speech entitled “Enhancing Research Ethics and Scientific Integrity in a University of Applied Sciences” was also given by Dr. Engida Esayas, and the panel validated three research projects. The workshop was then moved to the respective colleges of the university, and the remaining research projects were validated in parallel sessions.
