College of Social Sciences and Humanities
The College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) is among the pioneer colleges of Dilla University. When the former Dilla College of Teacher Education and Health Sciences (DCTEHS) raised to the status of University in 2006/7 (1999 E.C), the various departments of Social Science and Natural Science streams continued to be delivered under the Faculty of Education.
Then after in 2007 (2000 E.C), the CSSH emerged as an independent college along with other sister colleges of the university. Again in 2009 (2002 E.C), based on the new structural reform, the CSSH split up in to two independent Schools: School of Languages & Journalism, and School of Social Sciences, which later on in 2012 (2005 E.C) merged again to form the present college, i.e., CSSH. Since then the college has been functioning at its full capacity led by a Dean, two Vice Deans, Head of a Center, and Heads and Vice Heads of the respective departments.
Currently, the CSSH is located at Odaya’a campus (commonly known as SEMERA CAMPUS, which was named after entertaining the first batch students of Semera University) and runs 16 undergraduate and 11 master’s and one PhD programs, within 10 departments and one center.
Mission
The mission of CSSH is to cultivate competent and qualified graduates in the fields of social sciences and humanities, equipping them with the skills necessary to engage effectively in the workforce. The college emphasizes the importance of industry linkage and community engagement through collaborative initiatives, innovative research, and impactful service, fostering vibrant leadership to contribute to societal development. Accordingly, the college is dedicated to producing high-caliber professionals at both undergraduate and (post)graduate levels by fostering a deep commitment among academic staff to engage in academic activities, research, and community service; as part of this effort, the CSSH organizes a monthly academic discussion forum hosted by ten of its departments, while also building strong partnerships with local and international organizations that share its vision.
