The Research Publication Ethics and Dissemination Directorate office of Dilla University conducted a training session on research ethics and integrity. The training, held on March 06, 2025 (27/06/2017 E.C), targeted senior researchers, members of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), members of the university’s standing research committee, and other relevant stakeholders.

During the opening speech, Dr. Elias Alemu, the President of Dilla University stated that such training, organized under the Research Publication Ethics and Dissemination Directorate within the Vice President’s Office for Research and Technology Transfer, plays a significant role in enhancing and strengthening researchers’ capacity. He also emphasized concerns about adherence to ethical research practices, questioning the validity and accuracy of research conducted.

Dr. Elias further noted that throughout the research process, from proposal preparation to execution, ethical considerations must be prioritized. He stressed that plagiarism and misuse of others’ work could hinder progress, and at the very least, proper acknowledgment should be given. He highlighted that this training is a crucial solution to address ethical challenges in research.

Dr. Misganu Legesse, Director of the Research Publication Ethics and Dissemination Office at Dilla University, stated that this training was designed to ensure that research ethics are maintained throughout the research process. He pointed out that research credibility is declining globally, leading to the retraction of many studies from major journals. Given this, the training aims to equip senior researchers, IRB members, and research standing committee members with the necessary knowledge to uphold ethical standards. He also mentioned that highly experienced national and international experts in research ethics areas from Addis Ababa University were invited to conduct the training, highlighting the seriousness of the issue.
