Green University, Sustainable Future

Research Themes

General Description:

Implantation of scientific knowledge is important to tackle environmental and societal problems and would bring sustainable development for a country. It establishes the factual basis, anticipates future consequences, and contributes to finding pathways to sustainability transformations. Science has always been embedded in society, and more than ever it should consciously engage more with current societal and environmental challenges, technological improvements, and development needs. Furthermore, it will effectively play roles in contributing for sustainable national and international development goals. High quality applied science researches under the this theme shall provide evidences supporting the breaking through and helping the effort to tackle the current environmental, social, economic and political bottlenecks towards enabling creative and transformative solutions that bring forth far-reaching changes or transformation.

Aim

The aim of this theme is to contribute for the endeavor to bring environmental sustainability, societal transformation, and sustainable development through undertaking multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and cross-cutting applied researches; and investigations and applications of action oriented solutions.

Sub-Themes

Sub-theme 1: Physical, Computational and Material Sciences

Applied researches under Physical, Computational and Material Sciences (Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Material Sciences) aimed at applications required for designing, synthesis, characterization, development and production of new materials/produce as well as improvement of the existing ones

Sub-theme 2: Environment, Biodiversity, and Ecosystem

Investigation and implementation of innovative and adaptive conservation and management strategies for maintenance of healthy land and water ecosystems. Researches related to environmental management, biodiversity conservation and management, and maintenance of ecosystem functioning under the changing environment and climate are the major area of focus of this subtheme.

Sub-theme 3: Health, Fitness and Exercise

Maintenance of physical and mental well-being of the society is required to hasten sustainable development of a country. In order to achieve these, researches focusing on, physical fitness, sport physiology, sport technologies, physical exercise, health and nutrition, attitude and behavior, mental psychology, stress and addiction, young/adolescent delinquency, etc. are needed.

Sub-theme 4: Space, Climate Change and Complex Systems

Climate change is impacting people, nature and country’s economy. Interdependence between space climate and earth climate that affect earth’s life is the major issue. Researches regarding modeling of complex system, greenhouse gas emissions, weather/climate attribute, carbon sequestration/modeling, energy particles, nanotechnology, space science/technology, etc. will be conducted.

Sub-theme 5: Biotechnology and Food Security

Biotechnology researches related to food production and processing, biomedicine, environment, energy, agriculture, manipulation of living organisms and/or their components, produce of useful products (pest resistant crops, new bacterial strains, novel pharmaceuticals, etc.),bioinformatics, DNA sequencing, tissue culture, biomaterials (biochemistry, biosynthesis, cellular biology, physiology, bioassay, biochemical engineering, etc.), interface between biological and engineered systems, etc.

Sub-theme 6: Mineral Resource Development

⦁ Effective investigation and characterization of mineral resources help to ensure economic benefit of the country required to satisfy for its development needs. Researches focusing on hydro-geological, physical, chemical, environmental sciences, geosciences (Geology, Geochemistry, Petrology, Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, Paleontology, Mineralogy, Geophysics, Geo-technical Engineering, Structural Geology, Mineral Exploration, Mining, Geo-informatics), Geo-hazard, etc.

Sub-theme 7: Indigenous Knowledge, Innovation and Technology

This sub-theme contains a broad concept encompassing several areas of research such as exploration of traditional knowledge in areas of traditional medicine, nutrition indigenous knowledge in production, resource management, conservation, innovations and technologies applicable for environmental problems such as pollution, waste treatment and bioremediation for sustainable use of resources.

Sub-theme 8: Sustainable Energy and Environment

Development of alternative energy that causes no long-term damage to the environment; healthy, safe, and clean environment; and biodiversity rich ecosystems are required to sustain a suitable quality of life. Researches related to renewable energy, pollution, and waste water treatment, industrial and household waste management/recycling, restoration, rehabilitation of degraded lands, greening, climate related disaster risks, etc.
